Client-Side Image Optimization and Page Load Performance

Images are the heaviest asset on most web pages, and oversized images are the most common cause of a poor Largest Contentful Paint score. Shipping a 4,000-pixel-wide photo into a 600-pixel container forces the browser to download and decode several megabytes it will immediately throw away. Resizing to the largest size the layout can actually display — then serving a 2× variant for high-density screens — often cuts file weight by 80% or more with no visible quality loss.

Format choice matters as much as dimensions. WebP typically produces files 25–35% smaller than a comparable JPEG at the same perceived quality, while PNG is only the right choice for graphics with sharp edges, text or transparency. Photographs should be JPEG or WebP with quality between 75 and 85, where compression artefacts remain invisible at normal viewing distance.

Because this resizer runs entirely on HTML5 Canvas in your browser, files are never uploaded to a server. That makes it safe for client screenshots, product photography under embargo, ID documents and anything else covered by a confidentiality agreement — the image stays in local memory and disappears when you close the tab.

No. The file is read with the browser File API and drawn onto a canvas element in local memory. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored.
