Password Entropy and Client-Side Safety
Password strength is measured in entropy: bits of unpredictability. Entropy equals length × log2(character set size). A 12-character password from a 94-character set carries about 78 bits — strong against offline attack — while an 8-character lowercase password carries only about 37 bits and falls in minutes on commodity hardware. Length beats complexity: adding characters raises entropy faster than adding symbol classes.
Aim for at least 16 characters for anything valuable, use a unique password per service, and store them in a password manager rather than reusing patterns. Enable multi-factor authentication wherever it is offered — it defeats credential stuffing even if a password leaks.
This generator uses crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser's cryptographically secure random source, not Math.random(). Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored: values are created in memory on your device and disappear when you close the tab.
